KC team places fifth at state tournament

The Schulenburg Council 2902 “Gamecocks” tied for fifth place at the Texas Knights of Columbus 40th Annual Slowpitch Softball Tournament, held May 26-27 at Krieg Softball Complex in Austin.
Accepting the trophy from K. of C. State Athletic Chairman Daryl Entrop is coach Stanley Pesek. Also in fifth place was Rio Grande City Wicked Knights.
The Gamecocks went 4-2 in the “Open” division. After wins over Spring (27-7) and La Grange Young Guns (26-11), the Gamecocks fell to the Hallettsville River Rats (14-9). They advanced with wins over Needville Knights (13-2) and Nada Mayhem (15-11) before being eliminated by Columbus Cats (9-7). The top four teams in the Open division were: Hallettsville River Rats, Fort Worth La Casa, Sealy Iron Nights, and Columbus Cats. Tied for seventh place were Nada Mayhem and La Grange Young Guns. In the “B” division, Hallettsville Wild Game placed first and West Czech Express came in second. Moulton Knights won the “C” division with Windthorst Plowboys placing second. In the “Over 40” division, Fort Worth Knights placed first and the Mentz Knights placed second.
