PD reports on scam attempt at residence

Chief Troy Brenek of the Schulenburg Police Department would like to take a moment of your time to familiarize the City of Schulenburg citizens about a scam which was recently attempted.

An elderly woman was contacted at her residence by an unknown female, who knocked on the residential door and claimed her boyfriend was going to kill her. She requested to use the phone.

The resident looked outside and noticed an unknown male standing next to a vehicle. The resident smartly informed the woman she would not let her inside the residence but would contact the police on her behalf. The female then turned around and yelled to the male that the resident was going to call the police. The two individuals then got into the car and drove away.

“Luckily this attempt was not successful,” Chief Brenek said. “With the holiday season upon us, always be mindful that not everything is as it seems. The Schulenburg Police Department and I ask that if you notice any types of activities which are out of the ordinary that you please contact us. Please remember that if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is!”
