Sausagefest planned in Schulenburg next year
Plans are in the works for a downtown celebration next year that would feature a homemade sausage competition and polka music street dance. The event will be called the Schulenburg Sausagefest and will take place on the two blocks of North Main Street between Lyons Avenue and Wolters Avenue.
Organizers formed a committee and met last week. Committee members include Mike Stroup and Marcia Hrncir of the Greater Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce, Tom Zapata and Roy Saffel of the Schulenburg Lions Club, Paddy Magliolo of Paddy’s Texas Kitchen, Ryan Wotipka, Chad Zimmerman and Andy Behlen.
The committee discussed holding the celebration around the beginning of April next year, which is at the end of the traditional sausage-making season. Contestants may enter homemade sausage for judging.
In addition, the committee hopes to attract sausage-making businesses to participate in the festivities as sponsors.
The event will also include children’s games, light refreshments, and a biergarten. It will be a family-friendly event with free admission.
The committee hopes to make the event a fun community celebration.
