Agnes Strickland passed away on Monday, Jan. 11, 2021 at 1:34 a.m. at the Dornburg Center of Compassion Home in Victoria after a brief 10-week illness. Agnes reached the age of 81 years and 3 months.

She attended school in Ammannsville. During her early years, Agnes worked at the original Frank’s Restaurant. Agnes met the love of her life, Billy Strickland, in 1958, and they went on their first date to a drive-in movie. Agnes married Billy on Aug. 25, 1963 at the High Hill Catholic Church in High Hill. Together, they raised three children, Steve, Jason and Teri. Agnes was again blessed with six wonderful grandchildren, Erika, Chelsea, Brandon, Cullen, Cassie and Calli. She was further blessed with three great-grandsons, Tycen, Casen and Brock.

Agnes, or “Aggie” as she was often referred to by family, was a simple woman having great faith in Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. Agnes was a fabulous cook and her family remembers her famous meals of dressing, hamburgers and enchiladas. Agnes/Aggie was the life of the party, and she loved family gatherings on Christmas Eve at her house, playing the dice game Left, Right, Center (LRC).

Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Billy, who passed away just 1 year and 5 months prior to her death.

Funeral services for Agnes Strickland were held on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021 from the St. Rose Catholic Church in Schulenburg at 2 p.m., with the parish rosary being recited just prior to the funeral Mass. Pallbearers were grandsons Brandon Strickland, Cullen Strickland, Josh Mendel and Eric Preuss, and nephews Mark Anders and Scott Strickland. Interment was in the Old High Hill Cemetery in High Hill. Services were under the direction of Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home. Snacks and refreshments were held following the funeral services at Svetlik Farm.
