Lillie Mae Machicek

Lillie Mae Machicek of Taylor went home to be with the Lord at 3:40 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at the age of 85.

Lillie touched the lives of everyone who met her and knew her. Having worked at Walmart for 27 faithful years, she loved talking to her many friends as they came through her check-out line. She even followed some to the exit as she continued visiting. Lillie loved the Lord with all of her heart and was a faithful servant. She will be remembered for her smile and jovial personality, her love of people and visiting, big hugs, homemade kolaches, distinguishing Czech accent, and her loving devotion to her family.

Lillie was born to John B. and Mary (Castecka) Okruhlik on March 22, 1935 in Praha. She grew up working hard on the family farm. Lillie became an excellent cook and baker (GREAT kolaches), learning from her mother and grandmother at a very young age. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Edward R. Machicek Sr., whom she married on Oct. 17, 1955. Lillie was a loving mother to her three children: Anna Machicek of Taylor, Henry (Susan) Machicek of Walburg, and Edward Machicek Jr. of Temple. While she did not have any grandchildren of her own, she had many “adopted grandchildren” who ran to her for hugs when they came shopping at Walmart. She was also lovingly called “Mom” by many people who knew her.

Lillie was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Sr., in September 2017. Lillie was also preceded in death by her first-born infant son, Edward Joseph, and her brother, Ernie Okruhlik of Richmond.

Lillie is also survived by her brother Benny (Earline) Okruhlik of Spring, and her sister-in-law Earline Okruhlik (Ernie’s wife) of Richmond, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2020, followed by the praying of the rosary at 7 p.m. at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylor, with Fr. Keith Koehl officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of a reception, the family plans to have a celebration of Lillie’s life in the future when the COVID restrictions are lifted.

Due to the unfortunate circumstances of COVID-19, there are restrictions on the number of attendees, and masks are required. This applies to both the funeral home and the church.

Additionally, in lieu of flowers, at their preference, persons are welcome to make a donation in Lillie’s memory to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Capital Campaign in Taylor.
