Edith E. Kalina, 101, of Schulenburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday Nov. 2, 2019 at the Schulenburg Regency Nursing Center.
Edith was born in Moravia, Texas, on Aug. 16, 1918, the daughter of the late Frank J. and Frances (Kubos) Olsovsky. Edith married Vaclav “Jim” Kalina on Dec. 27, 1944, in Moravia. Edith was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She lived a simple life and was proud of it. She loved to garden, cook, read books, and do crossword puzzles. She loved her family first and foremost. Edith never would sit down at the dinner table until she was certain everyone else was taken care of first.
Edith is survived by her children, Annette Abbett and husband Harvey, Ken Kalina and wife Dawn, Doreen Stockwell, Ralph Kalina and wife Cindy, Roland Kalina and wife Theresa, and Monica Lewis and husband Don; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren as well as her brothers Albert Olsovsky and wife Dorothy, and Willie Olsovsky and wife Mary Louise.
In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by her husband Jim, two brothers and one sister.
A Celebration of Life Mass was held on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019 at the Assumption of The Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Praha.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Assumption of The Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church of Praha, Hospice of South Texas, St. Rose School of Schulenburg, or a charity of one’s choice.
