Nerissa Cahal, 39, of The Woodlands passed away in peace on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019 after her courageous battle with cancer.

Nerissa was born in Hallettsville on Feb. 27, 1980 to Robert and Pam Besetsny. She spent her childhood growing up alongside her brother Curt in Schulenburg attending St. Rose of Lima Catholic School and Schulenburg High School, graduating in 1998. She loved sports. She played volleyball, basketball, cheered and ran track. After graduation, she attended Texas A&M where she met her wonderful husband Chris.

She married Chris Cahal April 17, 2004 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and began their story of enjoying a love-filled life together. Nerissa excelled at being a mom. Her children Colson, Brody, Parker and Isabelle brought her pure joy. Among the many things she enjoyed with her children was watching and cheering for her boys while they were playing sports. She even tried her best in the short time she had with Isabelle to make her love it also.

Cancer robbed Nerissa of staying and finishing her story here on earth. She fought so hard with grace and determination to get through just one more day. Her determination and grit to fight were inspiring to all she encountered. Nerissa was strong and beautiful with the most infectious smile. She was strong in so many ways – strength of character, strength in faith, and strength for her battle. Nerissa was the shining star for everyone and everyone will miss her amazing smile.

Survivors include her husband Chris and children Colson, Brody, Parker and Isabelle; her parents, Pam and Robert Besetsny of Schulenburg; brother Curt and his wife Neely and nieces Madeline, Claire and Emerson of Houston; and grandparents Clarence and Evelyn Besetsny and Margaret Havrda of Schulenburg. Additional survivors include mother-in-law Janice Osborne, father-in-law Bill Cahal, sisters-in-law Shannon and Brian Rowe and their children Braeden, Brynn and Bennett, Carrie and Doug Nichols, along with numerous aunts, uncles and lots of loving cousins.
