KCs Barbecue Chicken Dinner

The Knights of Columbus will hold their annual New Year’s barbecue chicken dinner on Sunday, Jan. 17 at the Schulenburg Hall. Serving will begin at 10:30 a.m. or when food is ready to serve, whichever comes first.

The meal will include a half chicken, buttered potatoes, pinto beans and pickle. Cost is $10 each for the drive-thru-only plates (no reservations necessary). In addition, a drawing will be held around 12:15 p.m.

Texas State Domino Tournament

The 69th Texas State Domino Tournament will be held on Sunday, Jan. 17 at the KC Hall in Hallettsville. Partners registration will be held from 7 to 9 a.m. and double-elimination play will start at 9 a.m. A loser consolation tournament will immediately be held for the first two settings of losers. There will be the recommended amount of COVID-19 space between tables. A barbecue chicken dinner will be served in the hall, with plates-to-go served outside from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Schulenburg Junior Livestock Show

The 2021 Schulenburg Junior Livestock Show will be held Jan. 21-23 at the Schulenburg Expo Center.

On Thursday, Jan. 21, gates will open at 1 p.m. and animals (except broilers) must be in place by 6:30 p.m. Weigh-in will take place at 6:45 p.m.

On Friday, Jan. 22, gates will open at 7 a.m. Broilers must be in place by 8 a.m. and will be sifted at 8:15 a.m. Judging will be held as follows: rabbits, 8:30 a.m.; broilers, 11 a.m.; market goats, breeding goats and dairy cattle, 1 p.m.; market swine and breeding swine, 3 p.m.; and market steers and heifers, 5 p.m.

On Saturday, Jan. 23, exhibitor photos will be at 3 p.m. and exhibitor awards will be given at 4 p.m.  The building will open to buyers at 4 p.m. and the market sale will begin at 6 p.m.

The Schulenburg FFA, Junior FFA and 4-H members welcome everyone to the show, but anyone attending the show and sale MUST wear a mask while in the Expo Center.  In addition, adults age 65 or older need to consult with their doctor before deciding to attend the show.

Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department Stew Supper

The Schulenburg VFD will serve a boneless beef stew supper on Thursday, Feb. 4 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the KC Hall. Cost is $10 each for the drive-thru-only plates.  

Tickets are available from any firefighter, or at Grahmann’s True Value, Schulenburg Printing or the Sticker. Deadline to buy tickets is Monday, Feb. 1. A limited amount of tickets will be sold at the hall.
