Established in 1963, Older Americans Month (OAM) is celebrated every May. Led by the Administration for Community Living (ACL), a federal agency, OAM is a time to recognize older Americans’ contributions, highlight aging trends, and reaffirm commitments to serving the older adults in the nation’s communities.

As of April 20, total intake at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter stood at 503 for the year – 249 dogs and 254 cats in need.

National Day of Prayer Observance at First Baptist Church On the 73rd annual National Day of Prayer,Thursday, May 2, First Baptist Church, 110 North Upton, will open its doors to anyone who wants to set aside time to pray earnestly for the community, nation and world.

A benefit barbecue pork steak dinner for Jimmy and Cindy Carter will be held on Friday, May 17 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Schulenburg Hall, 405 South St.

On the National Day of Prayer, Thursday, May 2, First Baptist Schulenburg will open the church doors from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Decoration Day at Old High Hill Cemetery will be held on the same day, May 5. The Old High Hill Cemetery is located about three miles northwest of Schulenburg on FM 2672.
