Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek reports that during the week of May 5-11, officers responded to 63 calls for service and five reportable incidents were investigated as follows: •May 5 – Officer Powe conducted a traffic stop in the 600th block of east I-10.After further investigation, the subject was arrested and taken to jail for possession of marijuana, unlawfully carrying a weapon, and possession of a firearm by a gang member.

May sales tax allocations issued

Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced on Wednesday, May 8 that he was sending cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.2 billion in local sales tax allocations for May, 0.4 percent more than in May 2023.

As East Texas residents return to clean up their homes and businesses after extensive flooding earlier this month, the Texas Department of State Health Services urged residents and business owners to exercise caution. Among the recommendations: ·Never use gasoline-powered generators or charcoal grills indoors. Keep them outside, at least 20 feet from homes to avoid possible carbon monoxide poisoning. Direct generator engine exhaust away from windows and doors ·Never mix bleach with products that contain ammonia. Toxic fumes could be created.
