GSR to host Runoff Election forum May 6 in Hallettsville

Great State Republicans will host a question-and-answer forum on Monday, May 6 at 6 p.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church fellowship hall in Hallettsville for Runoff Election candidates in two races in Lavaca County.

Deputies, officers attend Texas CIT Conference

Several Fayette County deputies and police department officers attended the Texas CIT Association conference held April 18-20 at South Padre Island, according to Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek. The conference focuses on the intersection of mental health and the criminal justice system and brings together peace officers and mental health professionals from across the state to network, share knowledge and ideas, and receive advanced training on mental health and crisis intervention.

FCSO partners with Turtle Wing for Autism Awareness

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office went all out for Autism Acceptance Month by partnering with Turtle Wing Foundation to host an awareness campaign. Donations were raised through “Sponsor a Deputy” in which a deputy received a special blue Autism Acceptance badge for April.

Court proclaims Soil & Water Stewardship Week

The Fayette County Commissioners Court signed a proclamation declaring April 28 to May 5 as Soil and Water Stewardship Week in Fayette County at its regular meeting on Thursday, April 25. Members of the Fayette County Soil and Water Conservation District were on hand for the proclamation signing. The proclamation states: “...Fertile soil and clean water provide us with our daily sustenance, and effective conservation practices have helped provide us [with] a rich standard of living. Our security depends on healthy soil and clean water and stewardship calls for each person to help conserve these precious resources.”

EDC donates highway banners for Sausagefest

The Schulenburg Economic Development Corporation paid for the highway banners promoting the Schulenburg Sausagefest held on Saturday, April 6 in downtown Schulenburg. The Schulenburg EDC strives to help grow the economy in Schulenburg and felt this project with Sausagefest brings people to the community which helps the town's economy. FEC having metal pole inspections done

Exo’s Utility Services Division was scheduled to start steel pole inspections for Fayette Electric Cooperative beginning Monday, April 22. The EXO crews are driving gray Ford 150 pickups with the EXO logo displayed on them.

Emergency preparedness sales tax holiday slated

Coinciding with the severe weather season, Comptroller Glenn Hegar reminds Texans they can purchase certain items tax-free during the state’s sales tax holiday for emergency preparation supplies, which begins at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, and ends at midnight on Monday, April 29.

‘Silver & Safe’ class for mature drivers

The “Silver Drivers Safe Texans” program will be offered at two locations in Fayette County on Thursday, June 13. The first workshop will be hosted from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Randolph Recreation Center, 653 East Pearl St., La Grange in the general assembly room. The second workshop will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Schulenburg Regency Villas, 205 East Ave., Suite A. Schulenburg.
