Fayette County district court jury finds Tillman guilty of murder

Primary runoff elections set for Tuesday, May 28

Runoff elections will be held in Fayette County on Tuesday, May 28 with the Republican ballot and Democratic ballot each having one district-wide race. The runoff resulted when no single candidate earned more than 50 percent of the vote in the Primary Election, which was held on March 5.

Older Americans Month proclaimed in Fayette County

The Fayette County Commissioners Court signed a proclamation declaring May as Older Americans Month in Fayette County at its regular meeting on Thursday, May 9. It states, in part: “This year’s theme, Powered by Connection, emphasizes the profound impact of meaningful interactions and social connection on the well-being and health of older adults in our community. We call upon all residents to join in recognizing the contributions of our older citizens and promoting programs and activities that foster connection, inclusion, and support for older adults.”

Change to inmate communication service approved

A contract with Prodigy Solutions for inmate communication services at the Fayette County Justice Center was approved by the Commissioners Court during its meeting on Thursday, May 9. Jail Administrator Holly Smith said that the current inmate phone system at the jail is through Synergy.

After an overnight postponement due to lightning seemed to ignite the Shorthorns’ bats, Kenedy reciprocated with a thunderous offensive response to win the Class 2A area series 2-1. Schulenburg finished the season with an 18-14 record and made its first post-season appearance since 2017.

Bids awarded for street paving, drainage, water line

Two infrastructure improvement projects moved forward with the approval of bids by the Schulenburg City Council at its meeting on Tuesday, May 7. The first one was awarded to WJC Constructors of Smithville for street paving and drainage upgrades at College Street and Kessler Avenue (Highway 77).

Use of grant funds by Sheriff’s Dept. questioned before 3-2 vote to approve

The grant budget of the Sheriff’s Department was accepted by the Fayette County Commissioners Court at a special meeting on Thursday, May 2 but only after some objections. On Monday, April 29, grant budgets were unanimously accepted for the County Attorney’s Office and constables.
