Larry Tidwell ‘coming home’ after acclaimed college coaching career

While not a Schulenburg native, Larry Tidwell has said he considers the town “home” and that his time at Schulenburg ISD were “the best eight years” of his life. After 32 years in women’s college basketball as an assistant coach, a program-building head coach, and a recruiter who has traveled to every state and 40 countries, Tidwell has fulfilled his promise to return.

Tax abatement for energy storage plan proceeds

At its meeting held on Thursday, April 25, the Fayette County Commissioners Court accepted an application for tax abatement and an application fee from Staccato Storage, LLC in accordance with the tax abatement guidelines adopted by Fayette County on Nov. 9, 2023.

ACCSS to hold open house

ACCSS (Alliance for College & Career Student Success) is holding an open house on April 24 at Blinn College-Schulenburg, 100 Ranger Drive. A light meal will be served beginning at 6 p.m.

Public Library displaying exhibit on ‘Orphan Trains’ through May 4

The traveling exhibit “All Aboard the Orphan Train!” by the Kansas-based National Orphan Train Complex will be on display at the Schulenburg Public Library through Saturday, May 4. Informational panels tell the story of efforts from 1854 to 1929 to place some 250,000 children in new homes across the 48 contiguous states as well as Canada.

Magliolo three-peats as regional champion

Lady Horn senior Meredith Magliolo (center) takes the top spot on the medal stand at Texas A&M-Kingsville after clearing 5-feet, 6-inches in the high jump at the Class 2A Region IV meet, held April 19-20. For the third straight year, she won the regional title and qualified for state. She will be defending her 2A state championship in the event on May 3 in Austin. Council gets update on Civic Center

Plans to renovate the interior of the Civic Center started in the summer of 2022 and, after legal snags stalled the process, they are moving forward once again. Joanna Prihoda of Cutright & Prihoda architects updated the Schulenburg City Council at its meeting last week on the progress since receiving input from the City and meeting with engineers.

Administrator among SISD resignations

Following an executive session at last week’s meeting, the Schulenburg ISD Board of Trustees accepted three resignations and approved the hiring of three new staff members. Joining SISD next year will be elementary teacher LaDonna Huelett as well as junior high teacher/coach Cameron Besetzny and his wife, elementary teacher/coach Loren Besetzny.
