Ella (Seidel) Hromadka, 97, of Schulenburg passed away on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023 at DeTar Hospital in Victoria.

Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023 at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with Fr. Jasper Liggio officiating. Interment followed in the Dubina Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ervin Heinrich of Katy, Tommy Seidel of Katy, Kenny Smith of Houston, Robert Hromadka of Bleiberville, Andy Janda of Schulenburg and Jeffrey Melnar of Schulenburg.

Visitation began at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22 at Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home, with rosary at 6 p.m. led by Edward Kusy.

Born on April 11, 1926 at High Hill, she was the daughter of Charles and Frieda (Cordes) Seidel. She attended school in Schulenburg. On June 14, 1949, she married Jeffrey Hromadka at the High Hill Catholic Church. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and also a member of the St. Rose Altar Society for many years.

She lived in Houston for 25 years and was a housewife but she also worked at Weingarten’s Grocery Store before moving back to Fayette County in 1974 to Engle, where they had a farm. She also worked parttime at Farek’s Variety Store in Schulenburg.

She enjoyed arts and crafts, quilting, gardening, yard work and doing work on the farm – checking and feeding the cattle, checking fences and shredding the pasture when needed. She also always helped out with school activities and organizations.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Melnar and husband David of Schulenburg, and a grandson, Jeffrey Melnar.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Jeffrey Hromadka in August 1976 and an infant daughter, Patricia Hromadka, in May 1955 Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
