In loving memory of Jack E. Herzik, who peacefully passed away Wednesday, July 19 in Round Rock. Son of Erwin and Alma (Sobotik) Herzik, he was born on May 9, 1934 in Schulenburg, where he went on to spend his early years.

As a young boy and teenager, Jack actively participated in the FFA, raising and showcasing Southdown sheep, one of which won the State Grand Champion title. He also worked alongside his father, handling aircraft and coin-fed machines such as jukeboxes. During this time, he piloted his first solo flight at the age of 12.

After graduating from Texas A&M, he embarked on a career in the Air Force, piloting various types of aircraft. A significant portion of his Air Force career was dedicated to rescue missions, where he and his crew were recognized for saving numerous lives. Over time he had many careers including selling and insuring aircraft. He also bought and managed a beer distributorship as well as a commercial roofing business. Despite retiring to the Schulenburg area later in life, he took on various roles such as managing the La Grange airport and engaging in other job endeavors.

Jack became a Freemason and excelled to a Master Mason in 1955 and went on to serve for over 67 years.

At the age of 25, Jack was married to Elizabeth Stirling Herzik, and together, they had two sons, John and Wes Herzik. Other surviving relatives include their spouses, Heather and Tracy, and his grandchildren, Sterling, Sophie, Wyatt and Audra. In addition, his dear cousins are Gary Herzik/ wife JoAnn, Janice (Sobotik) Davidson/husband Jake Davidson and Susie (Herzik) Hembree.

In his later years, he found companionship again with the late Sandra Herzik. Together they enjoyed traveling, making friends and taking on new career challenges as a team.

Jack Herzik’s life journey has left an indelible mark on those who knew him, making life anything but dull. With amazing amounts of energy and lack of inhibition the saying “never met a stranger” certainly applied to him. His love of family and getting the most out of life are traits that his current and future descendants will aspire to replicate. He is greatly loved and missed.
