Senior Connections looks forward to many things in May. Heather Barthelme of Fayette County Theater will stop by for the lunch-and-learn on Monday, May 6 after a delicious meal of grilled chicken and scalloped potatoes from Koopmann Catering.

Petrich honored at Extension Education Assn. conference

At the recent District 11 Texas Extension Education Association (TEEA) Spring Conference held in Aransas Pass, a member of the Fayette County Walhalla EEA Club was honored. Marilyn Petrich, a 73-year-member, was recognized with the 2024 District 11 Texas Treasure Award. Accepting the award on behalf of Petrich was her daughter, Jesse Kokemor.

Winedale to host Zoom talk ‘All Trails Lead to Houston’

Winedale Historic Site’s next Texas history online talk, titled “All Trails Lead to Houston,” will be held on Tuesday, May 14 at noon via Zoom. Photographer and author Ray Viator will talk about the riders, horses, wagons and western traditions celebrated each day of the trail rides that lead to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.

Senior Connections has outing to Newman’s Castle

The Senior Connections outing in April to Newman’s Castle, located just outside Bellville, and Newman’s Bakery was so much fun. After loading the Schuber bus driven by Vickie Woodard, participants enjoyed a drive through the beautiful countryside to see ponds brimming after the rain that had fallen earlier in the week, along with flowers blooming and greens of every shade.

Moore gives program to Quilt Guild

The Colorado Valley Quilt Guild hosted Ann Moore, national quilting instructor and designer for Sew Steady/Westalee Design Rulers, at it meeting on Tuesday evening, April 23. Moore has won numerous awards for her beautiful quilting, all done on a domestic machine.

Reunions

The Appelt family is proud to be celebrating its 60th reunion on Sunday, June 2 at Appelt’s Hill Hall near Hallettsville. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. and lunch will be served at noon. A meal of stew, sausage and side dishes will be provided by the reunion, as well as individual cans and bottles of cold drinks.

The Old High Hill Cemetery Association Inc. annual business meeting will be held on Sunday, May 5 at St. Paul’s Hall, 712 Summit St. in Schulenburg at 2 p.m. All members, family, and descendants of those buried in the cemetery are encouraged to attend and participate in the meeting.

American Legion and Auxiliary held monthly meeting April 2

American Legion McBride Post 143 and Auxiliary held their monthly meetings on Tuesday, April 2. Commander Bob Heinrich called the meeting to order with 43 Legion and 10 Auxiliary members in attendance.

Local museum holds drawing for two gift baskets

The Schulenburg Historical Museum held a drawing for two gift baskets during SausageFest on Saturday, April 6, with visitors to the museum in March and in April prior to SausageFest entered into the drawing. The winner of the adult basket was Mary Zeller (left). The adult basket, a $125 value, included $50 certificates to Garden Company Cafe and Kountry Bakery along with other collectible items. The winner of the children’s basket was Collin Moran (right). The children’s basket (ages 12 and under), a $25 value, included $10 gift certificates to Dairy Queen and Whataburger along with other treats.

Arts for Rural Texas to host ArtWalk in Fayetteville

Arts for Rural Texas (ARTS) will host its annual ArtWalk, a juried fine art festival, on Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, May 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Fayetteville. Admission tis free and all are welcome.
