St. James MBC car wash/hot dogs/bake sale; pastor’s anniversary

St. James Missionary Baptist Church will hold a car wash, hot dogs & bake sale fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Wolters Park pavilion. Costs are – car wash, $5 per car & $10 per truck; hot dogs, chips & soda, $5; cake/pie, $2 per slice; and water, $1. Donations will also be welcome, and the first 20 cars will receive a bookbag.

St. Mary, High Hill, Parish Picnic

St. Mary Catholic Church, High Hill, will celebrate its 163rd year at the annual parish picnic on Sunday, Sept. 3. A flag-raising at 9:30 a.m. will be followed by a polka Mass at 10:15 a.m. A fried chicken/stew dinner with trimmings will be served starting at 11 a.m. for $13 per plate, with drive thru plates available (drive-thru entrance is from FM 2672 northbound only). The auction will begin at 1 p.m. featuring livestock, quilts, homemade items, plants, etc. Music will be by Texas Sound Czech and Mark Halata/Texavia during the day, with a free dance at night by David Lewis The cake walk will open at 11 a.m. Corn hole will start at 1 p.m. Other activities will include a country store, duck pond, ring toss, train ride, souvenir booth, bounce house, etc. Hamburgers, nachos, High Hill sausage, etc. will be available.

Sacred Heart, Hallettsville, Fall Picnic

Sacred Heart Parish will hold its fall picnic on Sunday, Sept. 3 at the KC Hall in Hallettsville. A meal of fried chicken, stew, homemade cornbread dressing and trimmings will be served in the hall from 10:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. with drive-thru plates-to-go from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Plates will be $13 each. Msgr. John Peters will give a short memorial at 12:30 p.m.

The auction will start at 12:30 p.m. Music will include Kovanda Czech Band at the main pavilion, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Red Ravens and Dujka Brothers, free dance at the polka pavilion/biergarten, 1 to 8 p.m. There will also be a cake walk, country store, religious articles booth and bingo. A washer tourney will start at 5 p.m. Hamburgers, nachos, popcorn, snow cones, lemonade, soda, etc. will be available all afternoon.

Labor Day Holiday

Most local businesses will be closed on Monday, Sept. 4 for Labor Day.

The Sticker will be closed and the deadline for all materials – advertising, classifieds, photos and articles – will be Friday, Sept. 1 at noon.

Happy Tails benefitting Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter

The 2023 Happy Tails fundraiser benefitting the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter will be held at Freyburg Hall on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 6 to 10 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Texas Unlimited Band. Schulenburg VFD Auxiliary Hamburger Steak Dinner

The Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will serve a take home- only hamburger steak dinner on Wednesday, Oct. 4 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the KC Hall. The plates ($12 each) will include hamburger steak with brown gravy, mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, corn casserole, roll and cookie.
