In this life, we are going to be in relationships and we are going to get hurt. There will be misunderstandings, there will be conflicts, there will be apathy, there will be inconsiderate remarks, even with people you love deeply. How you handle that hurt will make the difference whether you have joy or whether you have resentment in your life.

To become mature human beings, to progress spiritually, to become loving people in the likeness of Christ, even to enjoy some peace and happiness in this life, we must become entirely free of bitterness. Indignation, resentment, the desire to “get even” and to live in hope that people are punished for their crimes, can keep us upset and tear us apart. So much so that the qualities of God – love, forgiveness, understanding and kindness – find no place in us.
