We human beings have always been intrigued by the wonders of space – especially the light of the stars above us. It is no wonder, then, that God, in His infinite goodness and wisdom, used this elemental symbol as His instrument to reveal His Son as light of the world – a light meant to be shared by all peoples – both Jew and Gentile.

Wreath put on veteran’s gravesite

The grandchildren of Earl and Dianna Potter placed a wreath on the gravesite of veteran Bruce Sterling on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020. His grave is in the Sterling Family Cemetery located on the Potters’ farm in the St. John area.

Combined Community Action is continuing its meals program for those age 60 and older. Frozen dinners are being provided for clients – five meals for five days of the week.

Turtle Wing gives reminder about year-end donations

Turtle Wing Foundation would like to remind everyone that yearend giving is a great opportunity for nonprofits to meet their fundraising goals. Approximately 31 percent of all annual giving occurs in December with approximately 12 percent of that in the last three days of December.

Stanzels donate gift card to SAFP

Ted and Wanda Stanzel (left, center) donated a $500 gift card from Arlan’s Market to the Schulenburg Area Food Pantry to purchase food needed for the holidays. Most of the pantry’s inventory comes from the Central Texas Food Bank in Austin but the pantry also does buy items for its shelves locally. Accepting the gift card on behalf of the Schulenburg Area Food Pantry is Jack Niesner (right), vice president.

It’s all about Love, Joy, Peace and Hope …

This past month, Christians around the world lit the Advent candles of hope, peace, joy and love. The Bible reveals, “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience...” (Galatians 5:22) The most important fruits of the Spirit: love, joy and peace, are represented in the Advent wreath.
