Pastor anniversary to be celebrated at St. James

St. James Missionary Baptist Church will hold a pastoral anniversary celebration on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 4 p.m. as pastor Rev. Andrew E. Stafford is honored for his 31 years of service.Guest speaker will be Dr. Darrell P. Thomas of Rock of Faith Missionary Baptist Church of Converse.

Second Chance to be closed Mondays effective Sept. 14

Beginning Monday, Sept. 14, Second Chance Emporium will operate under the following schedule:•Donations Drop-off – Open Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.•Sales Store – Open Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This handmade quilt will be auctioned at the annual picnic of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in High Hill on Sunday, Sept. 6. St. Anne’s Society members who constructed the quilt included (from left) Jan Ripper, Karen Miley, Lillian Hilscher, Georgia Cerny and Lorine Machicek. The auction will start at 1 p.m. The picnic will also include a flag-raising, dedication of the High Hill cross, Mass, fried chicken/stew dinner, music/dance, fireworks show and numerous other activities.

Free meals available at Stevens Chapel Aug. 27

Stevens Chapel United Methodist Church and New People/New Places grant provider are hosting a “free” monthly meal each month during 2026.The free monthly meal for August will be served on Thursday, Aug. 27 starting at 4 p.m. until the last meal is served.

Disaster preparedness training set at area church

United Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2038 FM 3171, north of Schulenburg, will host a Disaster Response Preparedness Training on Saturday, Aug. 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A light lunch will be provided.This is very practical basic training for everyone.

Fayette County Fair Commercial Heifer SaleThe Fayette County Fair commercial heifer sale will be held on Saturday, Aug. 29 at 1 p.m. at the Fayette County Fairgrounds in La Grange. The sale – which features over 160 head of quality bred heifers – takes place a week before the Fair.
