Turtle Wing to host 14th annual Monster Dash

The Turtle Wing Foundation will host its 14th annual Monster Dash on Sunday, Oct. 18 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Jack & Mary’s, 610 Lyons Ave. in Schulenburg.The family-friendly Halloween event will feature the annual Monster Dash, where participants can race to the finish line.

The Gardenia E. JanssenAnimal Shelter hours of operation are as follows: open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday for all normal operations.On Monday, the shelter is closed to the public but staff is on-site for animal care from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Singing Men to perform at Baptist Church on Sept. 17

The Singing Men of South Texas will present a free concert on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Schulenburg.The group of around 40 men, plus a small orchestra, is made up of pastors, worship leaders and musicians from various churches in the South Texas area.

An informative “safe and secure” workshop was presented by David McCall in Schulenburg in August. He covered car and travel safety, including hands-on identification of the spare tire and jack in each participant’s vehicle, along with home security and personal safety. He is shown with Lucy Stanzel demonstrating how to get away from someone who grabs you from behind – the trick is to turn in toward the attacker and then go for his or her eyes.
