First Baptist Church Fall Fun Fair

A Fall Fun Fair for youngsters elementary school age and younger will be held on Friday, Oct. 31 from 5 to 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 110 N. Upton Ave., Schulenburg. The free event will feature bounce houses, trunk-or-treat, hayrides, hot dogs, alpacas, candy, photo booth, games, etc. For more information, call 979-743-3621.

Daylight Saving Time Ends

Daylight saving time will end on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 2 a.m. Clocks should be turned back one hour.

SISD taking referrals for Gifted/Talented program

Schulenburg ISD is now planning for the Gifted/Talented program and accepting referrals for students in kindergarten and grades 6-11 who may need services for school. This program is designed for students who exhibit intellectual and creative thinking abilities at an extraordinary level not normally served in the regular classroom. Services are provided only upon identification of educational needs of the student. Nomination/referral forms are available at each campus office and online through the school’s website at www.schulenburgisd.net. The form must be returned to the school by Friday, Nov. 7.

Praise in the Park

Praise in the Park, presented by Community Friends & Neighbors, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wolters Park pavilion, 1103 Bohlmann Ave. Admission will be free and a complimentary hot dog meal combo will be served. All are invited to fellowship and worship Jesus together in the park.

Praha All Veterans Day Ceremonies

The 63rd anniversary All Veterans Day ceremonies at the Praha Cemetery, honoring all veterans of all eras, will be held Sunday, Nov. 9.

A patriotic rosary will be recited at 8:45 a.m. and Mass will be offered for all veterans at 9:30 a.m. at the Praha Church. Assembly will be at 10:30 a.m. and the veterans memorial service will start at 11 a.m. A flyover by the Commemorative Air Force will take place at noon. Guest speaker will be Capt. Josh Homan, Army veteran. There will also be a flower drop and music by the Schulenburg ISD band.

The ceremonies will commemorate 80 years of the end of World War II. Lawn chairs should be brought as seating is limited. A fried chicken dinner with trimmings ($14 per plate) will be prepared by the St. Rose Home & School Association. The event is sponsored by Praha Veterans Club and Vietnam Veterans Chapter 870, with participation from the American Legion, Catholic War Veterans, Disabled Veterans, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and all veterans.

St. Rose HSA Veterans Day Dinner

The St. Rose HSA will serve a Veterans Day dinner on Sunday, Nov. 9 starting at 11 a.m. at two locations – Schulenburg Hall, 405 South St., and Praha Hall, 821 FM 1295. The to-go-only plates will have fried chicken, buttered potatoes, green beans, pickle and cookie. Cost will be $14 per plate (no tickets necessary).

Weimar KCs Chicken Fried Steak Dinner

Weimar Knights of Columbus Council 2153 will serve a chicken fried steak dinner on Sunday, Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. until sold out at the St. Michael Catholic Church Family Center in Weimar. Cost will be $15 each for the drive-through-only plates with hand-battered chicken fried steak, corn and twice-baked potatoes.
