Praise in the Park
Praise in the Park, presented by Community Friends & Neighbors, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wolters Park pavilion, 1103 Bohlmann Ave. Admission will be free and a complimentary hot dog meal combo will be served. All are invited to fellowship and worship Jesus together in the park.
Praha All Veterans Day Ceremonies
The 63rd anniversary All Veterans Day ceremonies at the Praha Cemetery, honoring all veterans of all eras, will be held Sunday, Nov. 9.
A patriotic rosary will be recited at 8:45 a.m. and Mass will be offered for all veterans at 9:30 a.m. at the Praha Church. Assembly will be at 10:30 a.m. and the veterans memorial service will start at 11 a.m. A flyover by the Commemorative Air Force will take place at noon. Guest speaker will be Capt. Josh Homan, Army veteran. There will also be a flower drop and music by the Schulenburg ISD band.
The ceremonies will commemorate 80 years of the end of World War II. Lawn chairs should be brought as seating is limited. A fried chicken dinner with trimmings ($14 per plate) will be prepared by the St. Rose Home & School Association. The event is sponsored by Praha Veterans Club and Vietnam Veterans Chapter 870, with participation from the American Legion, Catholic War Veterans, Disabled Veterans, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and all veterans.
St. Rose HSA Veterans Day Dinner
The St. Rose HSA will serve a Veterans Day dinner on Sunday, Nov. 9 starting at 11 a.m. at two locations – Schulenburg Hall, 405 South St., and Praha Hall, 821 FM 1295. The to-go-only plates will have fried chicken, buttered potatoes, green beans, pickle and cookie. Cost will be $14 per plate (no tickets necessary).
Weimar KCs Chicken Fried Steak Dinner
Weimar Knights of Columbus Council 2153 will serve a chicken fried steak dinner on Sunday, Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. until sold out at the St. Michael Catholic Church Family Center in Weimar. Cost will be $15 each for the drive-through-only plates with hand-battered chicken fried steak, corn and twice-baked potatoes.
Veterans Day Holiday
The Veterans Day holiday will be observed on Tuesday, Nov. 11 and some offices, including governmental entities, will be closed.
Holiday Wine Walk & Shopping
A holiday wine walk/shopping will be held by the Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 3 to 7 p.m. There will be wine tastings, shopping and a chance to win door prizes. Wine glasses ($20 each) and maps will be available at the Chamber office at 618 North Main St.
KC’s Pork Chop Dinner, Blood Drive & Food Drive
The Knights of Columbus will hold a pork chop dinner on Sunday, Nov. 16 at the Schulenburg Hall starting at 10:30 a.m. or when ready to serve. Cost will be $15 for the drive-thru plates with cornmeal fried pork chops, vegetable rice, black-eyed peas and sauteed broccoli.
In addition, the KCs will sponsor a blood drive with the South Texas Blood Bank mobile unit on site to accept donations. Each donor will receive a free meal provided by the KCs The KCs will also hold their fifth annual food drive benefitting the Schulenburg Area Food Pantry. Non-perishable goods and/or monetary donations will be accepted.
Turkey Shoot benefitting St. Rose of Lima School
A turkey shoot will be held on Sunday, Nov. 16 starting at 2 p.m. at Freyburg, benefitting St. Rose of Lima Catholic School. For the turkey shoot, shotguns allowed will be 12- or 20-gauge (ammo provided) and .410 (ammo not provided). Fajita wraps will be available for $4, cooked by KCs. Darren Kunz will provide music. There will also be tomato throwing, sack races, pumpkin-decorating and cornhole sponsored by KCs.
Thanksgiving Meals
Christ Followers Outreach invites families in need to receive a Thanksgiving meal of turkey and sides (one meal per household).
Ticket sign-up for the meal will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 18 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the KC Hall (proof of residency is required to receive a ticket). Meal pick-up will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 25 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the KC Hall (the ticket should be brought to receive the meal).
Letters-to-Santa Dropoff at Chamber Office
The Chamber of Commerce invites youngsters to drop off their letters to Santa in the mailbox on the Chamber office porch from Monday, Dec. 1 to Tuesday, Dec. 16. The Chamber will have Santa reply to the letters.
Lighted Christmas Parade and Santa’s Visit to Schulenburg
The Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce will host a lighted Christmas parade in downtown Schulenburg and visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus on Sunday, Dec. 7. The parade will start at 6 p.m., then Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available in the gazebo to hear Christmas wishes and give out goodie bags provided by Vietnam Veterans Chapter 870. There will also be free hot dogs provided by the Chamber board of directors.
Holiday Decorating Contest
The Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce is seeking entries in its holiday decorating contest. There will be residential and commercial divisions, and entries must be within a five-mile radius of town. Residential winners will get cash prizes. Judging will take place on Friday, Dec. 19 between 6 and 9 p.m. To enter, call the Chamber office at 979-743-4514.
Shop Local Days
The Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce is promoting “Shop Local Days” from Monday, Nov. 24 thru Friday, Dec. 19.
To participate, spend at least $20 at five stores and receive a “shopping card,” which should then be turned in to the Chamber office to be entered in a drawing for cash prizes.
