The Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter hours of operation are as follows: open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday for all normal operations.On Monday, the shelter is closed to the public but staff is on-site for animal care from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Schulenburg Knights of Columbus Council 2902 recently made a donation in the amount of $500 to the American Cancer Society in support of the upcoming Fayette County Relay for Life event to be held on Saturday, April 18 at Leopard stadium in the La Grange.

Free meals available at Stevens Chapel Feb. 26

Free meals will be served at Stevens Chapel United Methodist Church, 309 Wolters Ave., Schulenburg, on Thursday, Feb. 26 starting at 4 p.m. until all meals are served.The meals are being supplied by Stevens Chapel United Methodist Church and New People/New Places grant provider.

Lent – the season for beautiful sacrifices

Last Wednesday was the beginning of the Christian 40-day season of Lent. On Ash Wednesday we were reminded that we came from the dust and to the dust we will return. We were also admonished to turn from sin and be faithful to Christ.
Senior Connections met in Weimar at the First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, Feb. 17. P.A. Abby Adamson of Dr. Duchicela’s clinic jumped in to help serve home-cooked meatloaf and buttered noodles and then she served up a great game of Jeopardy alongside three new medical students: Selena Salazar, K.C. Ugochukwu and David Cardenas. Team 1 was the lucky winner of the game – Joyce Ohnheiser, Debbie Price, Donna King and Karolyn Foster.

Sr. Connections: the place to be for active adults 55+

Spring is near and active adults in Fayette and Colorado counties are invited to join Senior Connections in Schulenburg, Weimar and Flatonia. Membership is free, the food is fine and the fellowship can’t be beat.

Stevens Chapel UMC hosts guest speaker

Stevens Chapel United Methodist Church extended an invitation to Chaplain Coy Poitier, coordinator for the Texas Parks & Wildlife’s Buffalo Soldiers Heritage & Outreach program, to be the guest speaker for African-American History Month.Poitier accepted and spoke on Sunday, Feb. 8 at the 11 a.m.

Combined CommunityAction’s “Meals on Wheels,” located at First Baptist Church, serves frozen congregate meals or frozen meals to the homebound. Meals should be ordered two weeks in advance and will be delivered to the homebound, or may be picked up at the center on Mondays.

Black History & Gospel Musical set here Feb. 28

Restitution Revival United and St. James Missionary Baptist Church will host a Black History & Gospel Musical on Saturday, Feb. 28 from noon to 3 p.m. at Wolters Park, 1100 Bohlmann Ave. in Schulenburg This free event is open to the public and refreshments will be served.

Habitat ReStore open Fridays, Saturdays in Schulenburg

The Fayette County Habitat for Humanity ReStore is open for sales and donation drop-offs every Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 825 North Main St. in Schulenburg.The ReStore sells and accepts donations of gently used home goods, building materials and more to support Habitat’s mission.
