CCA“Meals on Wheels,” located at First Baptist Church, serves frozen congregate meals or frozen meals to the homebound. Meals should be ordered two weeks in advance and will be delivered to the homebound, or may be picked up at the center on Mondays.

Statistics from Janssen Animal Shelter

As of Friday, Aug. 22, total intake for 2025 at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter stood at 1,207 – 508 dogs and 699 cats in need.As of Friday, Aug. 22, the shelter had 138 animals in its care – 50 dogs and 88 cats.

Darla (left) and Orion (right) and are two of the shelter’s friendly bully breed mixes. They are both playful, medium-energy dogs who are looking to find a forever home. They are treat motivated, which has helped in their training.

King-size quilt for High Hill picnic auction

The St. Mary Catholic Church picnic in High Hill will be held on Sunday, Aug. 31 and will feature a king-size quilt in the auction. The kingsize quilt – called a “Petals Traditional Quilt” – was quilted and donated by Shelley Janda (right). Also holding the quilt is Dorothy Meyer (left).

Second Chance Emporium (SCE) recently donated $20,000 to the Fayette County Fair Association (FCFA) in support of the new food court at the Fairgrounds in La Grange.

4th Degree Knights of Columbus officers installed

St. Michael’s Assembly No. 1527, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, recently held its installation of officers. Assembly No. 1527 of Our Lady of Guadalupe Province is comprised of Sir Knights from the Weimar, Schulenburg and Flatonia Knights of Columbus councils.
