As of April 20, total intake at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter stood at 503 for the year – 249 dogs and 254 cats in need.As of April 20, the shelter had 95 animals in its care – 71 dogs and 24 cats.

Benefit for Jimmy & Cindy Carter slated

A benefit barbecue pork steak dinner for Jimmy and Cindy Carter will be held on Friday, May 17 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Schulenburg Hall, 405 South St.Tickets are $12 each for the drive-through only plates, which will include barbecue pork steak, buttered onion potatoes, pinto beans and pickle.

National Day of Prayer to be observed here

On the National Day of Prayer, Thursday, May 2, First Baptist Schulenburg will open the church doors from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. for a time of prayer.A light breakfast will be offered from 7 to 8 a.m., followed by a time of corporate prayer from 8 to 8:30 a.m.

Decoration Days

Decoration Day at Old High Hill Cemetery will be held on the same day, May 5. The Old High Hill Cemetery is located about three miles northwest of Schulenburg on FM 2672.The Old High Hill Cemetery Association Inc.

Children receive First Holy Communion at St. Rose Church

St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church celebrated First Holy Communion on Saturday, April 20. Children receiving the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time at the 10 a.m.

KCs donate to Legion flag fund

Knights of Columbus Council 2902 recently presented a donation of $250 to American Legion Post 143 for its cemetery flag fund. Shown are (from left) Ken J. Berger, representing KC Council 2902, and Post 143 commander. Berger is also a Legion member.
