The Zion Lutheran Church Dorcas Guild recently sponsored a Souper Bowl of Caring drive to benefit the Schulenburg Area Food Pantry. There was a congregational ingathering that collected $600 for the SAFP.

Knights of Columbus take part in ‘March for Life’

The Knights of Columbus participated in the annual “March for Life” on Jan. 27 at Columbus, hosted by the Catholic Daughters of America, Court 1588 of Columbus. The march had over 100 participating. Guest speakers were Deacon Doug Tromblee, Deacon Andy Nunmaker and Deacon Rusty Thuet.

Percy and Boots are two of the senior dogs at the shelter. Both dogs deserve to spend their golden years in a home they can call their own. Boots, a brown and white male, and Percy, a black and tan female, are both people and dog friendly. They are leash and kennel trained.

Combined CommunityAction’s “Meals on Wheels,” located in the Civic Center, serves frozen congregate meals or frozen meals to the homebound. Please call 979-743-4036 two weeks in advance for the meals, which will be delivered to the homebound or may be picked up at the center on Mondays.

Weimar KCs Fried Catfish Dinners During Lent Weimar Knights of Columbus Council 2153 will hold a drive-thru-only fried catfish dinner each Friday of Lent – March 1, March 8, March 15 and March 22 – from 5 to 7 p.m. or until sold out at the St. Michael Catholic Church Family Center in Weimar.

As of Feb. 23, total intake at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter stood at 191 for the year – 108 dogs and 83 cats in need. As of Feb. 23, the shelter had 77 animals in its care – 51 dogs and 26 cats.

Funeral services for Dan Pipilas, age 65, of Schulenburg will be held Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024 at 11 a.m. from the St. Mary's Catholic Church in High Hill, Texas. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the church with the Parish Rosary to be recited prior to the Mass at 10:30 a.m.

Sr. Connections: gathering place for active seniors

The Senior Connections 2024 Mardi Gras breakfast on Tuesday, Feb. 13 was a success, followed by a somber meal on Wednesday, Feb. 14. What a difference between Fat Tuesday and Ash Wednesday – going from a day of indulgence to one of humility upon entering the Lenten season.
