Great State Republicans will meet this month on Monday, Oct. 24 instead of the last Monday so members can participate in Trick or Treat on the Square with the Lavaca County Republican Party.
At this meeting, it is hoped to welcome new guests who received postcard invitations after the September meeting. Pastor Jerry Tanner will speak on the “Rise Up for Life” organization. He will tell about the group’s efforts to give girls and women options to abortion, legislation in the works on the subject and some success stories from their efforts. “Rise Up for Life” is one of the club's Caring for America projects as well.
Members have been participating in the Great State Literacy Project once a week, helping second grade students improve their reading skills. Great State Republicans also gave books to the school districts in Lavaca County, public and private, from FLAG (Foundation for Liberty andAmerican Greatness). Each teacher requesting books received at least one full set of the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution, Federalist Papers and Guidelines for the Electoral College plus a copy of the U.S. Constitution in Spanish for English as a Second Language and Spanish classes to use. The request for books was far over the budget for 2022 so next year Great State Republicans will budget for more. These materials can be used in successive classes each year.
