KOOPMANN FOR MAYOR
Connie Koopmann has announced her candidacy for mayor by giving the following statement: “I, Connie Koopmann, am seeking re-election as your Mayor of Schulenburg. I am a lifelong resident of Schulenburg and a business owner for 32 years.
“In my last two years as your mayor, the city has been faced with many ups and downs. Our first big step was to move forward with the repairs on the Civic Center. The citizens will soon see a beautiful facility that will be able to host weddings, reunions, funerals and other functions. Then came the elephant. During repairs to the city hall, the town was blessed with rain that also flooded city hall. The council decided that for the safety of our employees, we need to relocate to our current location. We are taking the repairs of the building into phases. This past summer we had to close our swimming pool because of the age on the mechanical parts and areas being outdated. The swimming pool is about 75 years old and is a costly service. I formed a committee between the council, city, and swimming team to meet and brainstorm on what is the best option to offer our citizens.
“The town has been blessed with many new businesses and some bringing life to old unoccupied buildings that have really made downtown nice. There are a lot of good things happening around town.
“One thing I promise to the citizens of Schulenburg is that I will not take any money from the city to serve as your mayor. Some citizens might not even know that you get paid to be Mayor and sit on the City Council. I am not here for the money. I will volunteer my time to serve you.
“I also believe that the mayor should be available to make public appearances whenever requested. I have attended many church celebrations, proclamation signings, recognized special residents and functions celebrating holidays and memorial services where I have given speeches.
“A little bit about myself now. I am married to Allen Koopmann, and we have two grown children and three grandchildren. I am the owner of Koopmann Catering, and I also work part-time for Flatonia ISD as their child nutrition director. I am also a member of TASO (Texas Association of Sports Officials), where I am a certified umpire for softball for the last 8 years. I am a member of Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn. I also serve on one of the breakfast teams that cook breakfast for our members and guests once a month. I sit on the Food Pantry board, and the Senior Connections board of directors.
“If you want to keep seeing progress in Schulenburg, I ask that you go vote on Saturday May 3, 2025, at the Public Library.”
