The Fayette County winter feral hog contest will begin on Saturday, Nov. 5 and will continue through Jan. 1, 2023.
The contest is being held to give landowners, producers and sportsmen an opportunity to assist in the control feral hogs in Fayette County. The feral hog population causes economic losses to producers through crop destruction, pasture and livestock losses and environmental damage, according to Scott Willey, Extension agent.
Premiums are being provided by the Fayette County Commissioners Court, Fayette County Farm Bureau and an anonymous donor. Prize money will be awarded to the individuals who officially enter the most feral hogs during the contest, in the following amounts:
