November 2023 Sheriff Keith Korenek reports these activities of Fayette County deputies for November. Deputy Terry Guentert was dispatched to an address in the Flatonia area in reference to a disturbance. The disturbance was between father and daughter.

Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek reports that during the week of Dec. 10-16, officers responded to 39 calls for services and two reportable incidents were investigated as follows: •Dec. 11 – Officer McFadden responded to the 1000th block of Bohlmann Avenue in reference to criminal mischief.

DAR recognizes Haleys’ flag display

The John Everett Chapter DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) and Robert Rankin Chapter No. 62 SAR (Sons of the American Revolution) recognized Rick and Wendy Haley for their American flag display for December. It is located at 207 McCormick St. in Columbus.

Property tax cuts go into effect A total of $18 billion in property tax cuts were approved by more than 80% of voters in the November general election and should be reflected in property tax bills that are due by Jan. 31.

County Farm Bureaus across Texas were recognized for membership achievements during Texas Farm Bureau’s (TFB) 90th annual meeting held Dec. 1-3 in Frisco.

E-cigarette law affecting retailers takes effect Jan. 1

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar reminds retailers that beginning Jan. 1, 2024, it will be a crime in Texas to market, advertise, sell or cause to be sold an e-cigarette product in certain containers that are designed to appeal to minors.

November sales tax allocations issued

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced on Wednesday, Dec. 6 that he was sending cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations for December, 2.5 percent more than in December 2022.
