Quakes prompt officials to limit disposal wells The Texas Railroad Commission has suspended nearly two dozen permits that allow oil and gas companies to inject saltwater into the ground, which regulators say has contributed to increased earthquakes of greater magnitude in West Texas.

Arrests made for warrant & after disturbance at residence

The Schulenburg Police Department made arrests in two separate incidents on Saturday, Jan. 13. At around 10:45 p.m., officers responded to America’s Best Value Inn to follow up on a disturbance that took place in the 1000 block of Kessler Avenue.

Great State Republicans set candidate forum Jan. 29

Great State Republicans are kicking off 2024 with a big start including a candidate forum on Monday, Jan. 29 at the Hallettsville High School cafeteria, 200 N. Ridge St., Hallettsville. Doors will open to the public at 5:30 p.m. for meet-and-greet time with the candidates. At 6 p.m.

Republican Women of the Yoakum Area set two forums

In keeping with the mission of educating the voting public, the Republican Women of theYoakum Area are providing two opportunities for Republican candidates to meet and speak to the voters. Forums are scheduled for Saturday, Jan 13 and Wednesday, Feb. 7 at the Yoakum Community Center at 105 Huck St.

Fayette Co. Republican Women to meet Jan. 17

The Fayette County Republican Women will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club, 575 Country Club Dr. in La Grange from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Check-in will begin at 10:45 a.m. with an option to purchase lunch for $20 inclusive, payable by cash or check.

Spring feral hog contest under way thru April 30

The Fayette County spring feral hog contest began on Monday, Jan. 8 and will continue through Tuesday, April 30. The contest is being held to give landowners, producers and sportsmen an opportunity to control feral hogs in Fayette County.
