Emergency preparedness sales tax holiday slated

Coinciding with the severe weather season, Comptroller Glenn Hegar reminds Texans they can purchase certain items tax-free during the state’s sales tax holiday for emergency preparation supplies, which begins at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, and ends at midnight on Monday, April 29.

‘Silver & Safe’ class for mature drivers

The “Silver Drivers Safe Texans” program will be offered at two locations in Fayette County on Thursday, June 13. The first workshop will be hosted from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Randolph Recreation Center, 653 East Pearl St., La Grange in the general assembly room.

Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek reports that during the week of April 7-13, officers responded to 102 calls for service and seven reportable incidents were investigated as follows: •April 7 – Officer Powe responded to the 4000th block of US Highway 90W in reference to assisting another agency.

April sales tax allocations total $1.03 billion

Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced on Wednesday, April 10 that he was sending cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.03 billion in local sales tax allocations for April, 5.5 percent more than in April 2023.
