And Then hosted an open house event that brought together community members, supporters and local businesses for a day of celebration and connection on Saturday, March 23. The event, held at the newly renovated And Then facility on Lyons Avenue, showcased the organization’s dedication to empowering young adults with learning challenges and providing them with meaningful opportunities.

Verbal disturbance leads to arrest of local man by SPD

The Schulenburg Police Department responded to a report of a verbal disturbance in the 600 block of South Street on Sunday, April 7 at approximately 5:42 p.m. According to the SPD report, officers spoke with both parties at the scene and the male was found to be in violation of bond conditions because of the situation.
The rear of the Carter home is shown above the day after the fire. At right is the detached garage where the blaze started with the collapsed connecting roof alongside and the back of the house at left. The front of the home, which faces Holub Road, remained intact.

High winds drive house fire north of town, couple escapes unharmed

A night at home watching the Astros took a drastic and tragic turn for Jimmy and Cindy Carter last Tuesday, April 2. While their favorite MLB team ended up blowing a late lead, the Carters lost much more as high north winds contributed to the rapid spread of a fire from a detached garage to the house.

Legion honors Stanzel for 75 years of membership

American Legion Post 143 in Schulenburg recently honored its oldest and longest-serving member, James Stanzel. At 97 years old, Stanzel has 75 years of service in the American Legion, all with Post 143.

While there wasn’t a promise of appearances by Matthew McConaughey, Dennis Quaid, or Woody Harrelson, representatives of “The Texas Film Corridor” indicated that those famous actors chose to return to Texas and many favor working in the Lone Star State rather than California. A group involved in the television and movie industry pitched their vision of sound stages and filming locations near Schulenburg to local officials last Wednesday.

Petition for annexation of EMS Station 4 OK’d

A voluntary annexation petition for the EMS Station 4 property to be annexed into the City of Schulenburg was approved at the Fayette County Commissioners Court meeting on Thursday, March 28. “When we first started this – to divide it into a one-acre tract (to build the new Schulenburg EMS station), there were certain stipulations – since we have a two-acre minimum,” Precinct 4 Commissioner Drew Brossmann said.
