In honor of America’s 250th birthday in 2026, the Schulenburg Festival Association has chosen Uncle Sam (above, left) to lead the Grand Parade on Sunday, Aug. 2. The individual, who had yet to be named, will march at the front of the parade.

Home east of town sustains smoke damage

The Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire on FM 1579 east of Schulenburg at 5:53 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14.Upon arrival, the home was found engulfed with smoke and all occupants were outside and safe.
