Milton James Barta, 85, of Victoria, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024 at 10:50 p.m. at Post Acute Medical Center after a three-month illness.

Funeral services were held on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Praha, with Fr. Luke Prihoda officiating. Interment took place in the Praha Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Richard Moring and Thomas Ponce, sonsin- law; Sean Ponce, Seth Ponce and Cullen

Strickland, grandsons; and Kevin Kalich, friend. Named as honorary pallbearers were Ervin Lev, cousin; and Robert Allums, friend/neighbor.

Rosary was recited on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 6 p.m. at Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home, led by Phyllis Venghaus.

Born on Oct. 9, 1938 at Praha, he was the son of Vinc Jr. and Marie (Kristynik) Barta. He attended Moulton High School. During his lifetime, he worked for the Texas Department of Transportation (30 years), Victor Stanzel Co., Fietsam Texaco and American Classifieds. He was retired at the time of his death.

He loved animals – at age 85 he still had his cattle, chickens and guineas. He best friends was his dog, Mitzy. In his younger years, he was also a paint and body man in his spare time. He loved Elvis Presley, and Lake Charles and Sulphur, Louisiana.

Survivors include two daughters, Sheryl Ponce and husband Thomas of Refugio, and Jennifer Moring and husband Richard of Schulenburg; two sisters, Jeanette Treybig and Laura Janecek, both of Schulenburg; four grandchildren, Sean Ponce, Seth Ponce, Kristin Moring and Hilary Strickland; and four great-grandchildren, Casen Strickland, Parker Laxton, Camden Strickland and Blair Strickland.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Vinc Jr. and Marie (Kristynik) Barta; and his first wife, Joyce (Getschmann) Barta.

Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
