ARP grants approved by Commissioners Court

Three entities were granted American Rescue Plan funds by the Fayette County Commissioners Court at its meeting on Thursday, Dec. 22 The Fayetteville Community Center Group received $77,000 to renovate the Fayetteville Community Center. Jerry Herring said that the current phase of work involves leveling the foundation of the building.

In addition, the Court approved giving the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter $350,000 from ARP funds. Animal Shelter Executive Director Teresa Stanley-Brown spoke about the needs of the shelter and the planned renovations. Through fundraisers and donations, the animal shelter has raised over $350,000 itself in the past year.

Regarding an additional ARP funds request, the Court approved advertising for bids for three vehicles: an animal control vehicle, which is to be used by a member of the Sheriff’s Department when handling/picking up animals in the county; a mental health transport vehicle; and a prisoner transport vehicle.
