For the second straight week, Fayette County’s confirmed active cases of COVID-19 decreased while recoveries continued to rise significantly.

According to the coronavirus tracker on the County’s website, those cases went from 75 to 27 from Aug. 4 to Aug. 11. Probable cases – those known to have come into significant contact with someone infected – also dropped, from 22 to 15. Meanwhile, recoveries jumped from 258 to 327.

Precinct 4, which includes the Schulenburg area, had the most drastic change with only nine confirmed active cases as of midday on Aug. 11 from 45 the previous week. Over a one-week span, recoveries nearly doubled, from 47 to 88.

Deaths countywide remained at six for the second straight week although the Department of State Health Services’ dashboard had fatalities at 14 (as of Aug. 10). According to DSHS Region 7, the issue involves matching locally reported deaths with the death certificate data used for reporting fatalities on the DSHS website.
