Fayette County is making a change to the way active cases are reported due to a new and more accurate data point that is now provided by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Previously a case was active, with a few exceptions, for 14 days from the report date. The report date is the day that DSHS became aware of the case.

“We now have slightly more accurate information that includes the report date and the test date,” Fayette County Emergency Management Coordinator Craig Moreau said. “In some cases, the test date and the report date are the same day but these dates sometimes differ. Currently, the largest difference is three days.

“Going forward, we will report active cases, in most instances, for 14 days from the test date,” Moreau said. “We will continue to publish both lab confirmed and probable cases for the county as a whole and per precinct.

“As you are aware, there are multiple private and public entities publishing COVID-19 data and, often, the data differs depending on where and how the data is gained,” he added. “It has always been our objective to provide the most timely and verified information possible. We rely on state data and local partnerships for verifying this data. I am very thankful for both of these sources but especially to our dedicated, generous, and compassionate local healthcare providers.”
