The free COVID-19 testing that started Monday, Aug. 17 was extended through Saturday, Aug. 22 at the Fayette County Fairgrounds in La Grange. Fayette County residency is not required.
Originally, it was slated to end on Friday. Monday was designated for students, teachers and staff and Emergency Management Chief Craig Moreau reported a “terrific turnout” with “hundreds ... tested.” Tuesday through Saturday is open to all area residents from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is done on site.
All healthcare workers, particularly nursing home employees, assisted living employees, home health employees, independent living employees, and first responders are encouraged to be tested.
For quicker registration, persons are asked to bring their cell phone to the event. According to Moreau, this is a self-administered cheek swab test, which is not painful. Results will be sent by email, text or phone call. Email is preferred and will provide the most rapid response.
