Polka Lovers Club museum making improvements

The Polka Lovers Club of Texas Museum (PLCTM) in La Grange has been making improvements since March 2022, after emerging from the COVID period. Much has been done to restore the beauty of the exterior buildings, upgrade technology and create a new website, plctm.com.

Fayette County Czech Heritage Society has meeting

The Fayette County Czech Heritage Society met on Feb. 5 in Hanslik Hall at the Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center in La Grange for its soup social and installation of officers.

Stevens Chapel sets Black History Month celebration

A Black History Month community celebration and church service will be held at Stevens Chapel United Methodist Church on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 18-19. A parade will kick off at 10 a.m. There will also be a black history program, food, music and fun activities.

‘Walk Across Texas’ starts Mar. 12 in Fayette County

Fayette County’s eight-week “WalkAcross Texas” program will start on Sunday, March 12, and is designed to help participants create healthy habits, lower the risk of disease, meet new friends and achieve 2023 health goals.

Black History Month event set for Feb. 18

In just one year, Schulenburg’s recognition of Black History Month has expanded from the first such event in 2022, initiated by Mayor Elaine Kocian. About two dozen gathered last year at the downtown gazebo and shared personal stories of how African-Americans contributed to the town.
