Gov. Greg Abbott issued an Executive Order on Thursday, July 2 requiring all Texans to wear a face covering over the nose and mouth in public spaces in counties with 20 or more positive COVID-19 cases, which applies to Fayette and surrounding counties.

A federal Community Oriented Policing Services Hiring Program grant will allow the Schulenburg Police Department to add two officers. After an executive session during Monday night’s regular City Council meeting, aldermen voted to accept $250,000 from the COPS program.

The 2020 Fayette County Fair Queen contestants have been announced, and this year seven young ladies are vying for the title. Ticket sales by the Queen contestants were set to begin on Wednesday, July 1, with season passes good for all four days of the Fair costing $35 each.
