Adoptions from the from the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter totaled 968 in 2023 – 678 cats and 290 dogs. At left are nine of the cats that came through the shelter doors – some are still available. At right is Thor – a goofy “lovebug” 5-year-old husky – who is also available for adoption.

The following year-end reports from Fayette County officials were submitted by the County judge’s office.
For the year 2023, we were able to rework 10.15 miles of road. That means hauled out with base material, ground up, laid down, and two shots of chip seal. We dozed out and reshaped 1.

State unemployment stays steady in November while area rates drop slightly

The statewide seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate held at 4.1 percent in November, according to the Texas Workforce Commission, while Texas’ seasonally-adjusted civilian labor force grew over the month by 30,800 people to reach 15,192,900.
