Man arrested bonds out, steals car and lands back in jail

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Wednesday, Dec. 14, Deputy Seth Nagel took a theft report from the Point Store in West Point where milk and motor oil were stolen. An image from a security camera at the store was able capture an image of the vehicle used by the suspect to get away.

Later that evening, Fayette County communications received a 911 call from the T-Mobile store in La Grange in reference to a suspicious person in the store causing the employee to be frightened. The employee was able to relay information to Fayette County communications that made them believe the suspicious person was possibly the suspect wanted from the West Point Store theft.

The Fayette County Narcotics Unit was already in the area and responded to the location. The Narcotics Unit located the suspect in a spray-painted blue vehicle that matched the description used in the earlier theft. The suspect, Jeff Romero, 38, of Austin, was then detained. The La Grange Police Department and Deputy Nagel arrived and assisted the Narcotics Unit.
