Voter Registration Deadline for May 6 Elections
Anyone who is not a registered voter, but wants to vote in the Saturday, May 6 local elections, must register to vote by the deadline of Thursday, April 6. For more information about becoming a registered voter, contact the Fayette County elections office at 979-968-6563 or visit Vote.Texas.Gov.
Good Friday Holiday
Many local businesses will be closed or close early in observance of Good Friday, April 7.
Good Friday Community Service
The Ministerial Alliance will host a Good Friday worship service at noon on Friday, April 7 at First Baptist Church, 110 N. Upton, Schulenburg. Speaker will be the Rev. Jerry Evins of First United Methodist Church. After the service, light refreshments will be served.
First Baptist Church Easter Services
An Easter sunrise service will take place at 7 a.m. on Sunday, April 9 at First Baptist Church of Schulenburg. Children’s Jumpstart Rally and Sunday School for all ages will start at 9:30 a.m., followed by a 10:45 a.m. Easter worship service with special music. An Easter egg hunt for children from nursery through fifth grade will be held immediately following the 10:45 a.m. worship service. First Baptist Church is located at 110 N. Freyburg United Methodist Church Easter Sunrise Service
Freyburg United Methodist Church will hold an Easter sunrise service on Sunday, April 9 at 7:30 a.m., followed by a brunch in the Fellowship Haus. Everyone is welcome to join the congregation.
Freyburg United Methodist Church is located at 4520 FM 2238 northwest of Schulenburg.
Moulton Catholic Church Easter Picnic
The Moulton Catholic Church will hold an Easter picnic on Sunday, April 9 at the St. Joseph’s Social Center. Mass will be at 10 a.m. followed by an Easter egg hunt. A fried chicken dinner for $12 per plate will be served starting at 10:30 a.m. (dine-in, drive-thru plates-to-go and fried chicken-to-go will be available).
Music will be by Ken Brothers (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and Texas Legacy Czech Band (3 to 7 p.m.). A live auction will start at 1 p.m. There will also be cake/plant walks, country store, hamburgers, refreshments, etc. For more information, call 361-596-4674 or visit www.stjosephsmoulton.org.
American Legion Chicken Fried Chicken Breast Dinner
American Legion McBride Post 143 will serve a drive-thru-only fried chicken and sausage dinner on Wednesday, April 12 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Legion Home in Wolters Park. The plates will include fried chicken, sausage, buttered potatoes, green beans with bacon and dinner roll. Tickets ($12 each) are available at Schulenburg Printing, Schulenburg Sticker, Grahmann’s True Value, Crystal Threads or from any Legion member. Only a limited number of tickets will be available at the drivethru. The Auxiliary will have bake sale items available for purchase.
Lions Club Nontraditional Student Scholarship
The Schulenburg Lions Club is offering $1,000 nontraditional student scholarships, open to residents of Schulenburg and those who work in Schulenburg and live in the tri-county area.
A nontraditional student is someone pursuing secondary education after high school, has delayed enrollment due to personal reasons, works full-time, has dependents, is a single parent, attends school part-time or has financial need. Applicants can be enrolled in technical school, nursing program, four-year university, graduate school or work-related certification program.
Applications are available by calling the Chamber of Commerce at 979-743-4514 or visiting the Chamber website. Applications must be submitted to the Chamber office by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 14.
Knights of Columbus Grilled Moo & Cluck Dinner
The Schulenburg KCs will serve a drive-thru-only Moo & Cluck dinner on Sunday, April 16 at the KC Hall starting at 10:30 a.m. or when food is ready. The $12 plates will include grilled beef hamburger steak, grilled chicken breast smothered in gravy, flavored rice, cheesy broccoli/ cauliflower blend and peaches.
In addition, South Texas Blood Bank will have a blood drive on Sunday, April 16 from 8 a.m. to 1 pm. at the KC Hall parking lot. Each donor will get a free meal provided by the KCs and other goodies. For more information, contact Ed Kusy at 979-743-5879.
Schulenburg Sharks Swim Team Registration
The Schulenburg Sharks swim team will hold registration on Sunday, April 16 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the SISD new gym and Saturday, April 22 from 9 a.m. to noon also in the SISD new gym.
Youth age 6 to under 18 can participate. Cost is $75 for the first swimmer and $65 for each additional swimmer. Registration received after April 30 will cost an extra $20 per swimmer. Forms should be printed out from www.sburgsharks.com and brought to registration.
