After a shootout with 922 yards in Thorndale the previous week, Schulenburg and Hearne totaled only 458 last Friday at David Husmann Memorial Stadium. What was the same: the Shorthorns out-gained their opponents by 20 yards and notched wins.
By prevailing 10-0 over the Eagles in the defensive battle on Homecoming night in Schulenburg, the Horns started district play 2-0 for the first time since 2019. Also, they posted their first shutout since a 49-0 victory over Weimar on Oct. 15, 2021.
The first comment from Schulenburg head coach Luke Hobbs after Friday’s low-scoring grind: “It was ugly.” He quickly went on to compliment Hearne’s defense: “They were amazing. They haven’t given up very many points all year and I know why now. They were physical, they were fast, they were aggressive. Hearne has one of the most athletic football teams I’ve ever seen all across the board. Every yard we got was well-earned.
