The St. Rose Cardinals played their first home game of the season last week and suffered a 20-6 setback against Victoria Our Lady of Victory.
After a nice 14-yard return from Cal Schiffli to start the game, St. Rose got one first down on a 7-yard run from Denver Carr. But that would be it as the sizable Eagle defensive line forced the Cardinals to punt. Will Taylor and Chris Campos stopped the Eagles for no gain on first down but, on the second play, the Eagle running back broke free for a 55-yard TD. The conversion attempt failed.
After both teams traded three-and-outs, the Cardinal offense got on the scoreboard. Facing third and 6, Weston Hollas passed to Charlie Shank on a crossing route for a 44- yard touchdown. The conversion attempt failed, leaving the score remained tied at 6-6. On the ensuing kickoff, the Eagles got great field position with a return to the Cardinal 22-yard line and scored on the first snap from scrimmage. A successful conversion put OLV up 14-6 at halftime.
