Annual VVA Veterans Party
Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 870, will hold its annual Veterans Party on Saturday, Nov. 18 at the Ammannsville Hall. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. and there will be a drawing at 7 p.m.
Beef stew and chicken noodle soup will be served (donations accepted). It will be a great meal and fun with family and friends.
Knights of Columbus Grilled ‘Moo & Cluck’ Dinner
The Knights of Columbus will hold a drive-thru-only grilled “Moo & Cluck”dinner on Sunday, Nov. 19 starting at 10:30 a.m. or when ready at the KC Hall. Plates ($12 each) will include grilled beef hamburger steak and chicken breast with gravy, vegetable rice, cheesy mixed vegetables and cranberries. Reservations are not necessary.
In addition, the South Texas Blood Bank will have a blood drive from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 19 in the KC Hall parking lot. Each donor will get a free meal provided by the KCs. For more information, contact Ed Kusy at 979-743-5879.
The KCs will also hold their fourth annual food drive on Nov. 19 benefitting the Schulenburg Area Food Pantry. Non-perishable goods and/or monetary donations will be accepted.
Thanksgiving Holiday
Most local businesses will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 23. The City of Schulenburg and Fayette County offices will have holidays on both Thursday and Friday, Nov. 23-24.
Residential garbage pickup for the week will be as follows: north side of town on Tuesday, Nov. 21 (usual day); and south side of town on Wednesday, Nov. 22. Commercial garbage pickup will follow the regular schedule (Monday, Wednesday and Friday, Nov. 20, 22 and 24).
The Sticker will also be closed on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 23-24.
Second Chance Emporium Thanksgiving Week Schedule
During Thanksgiving week, Second Chance Emporium, 841 South Reynolds, La Grange, will accept donations Monday, Nov. 20 through Wednesday, Nov. 22 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m The donations drop-off area and the sales store will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23 through Saturday, Nov. 25.
Christmas Tree Decorating Contest
The Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce invites organizations, businesses and individuals to enter its Christmas tree decorating contest which will be held at Momma’s at Sengelmann, 531 North Main St.
Pre-lit trees will be furnished by the Chamber, with decorating taking place on Monday, Nov. 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Deadline to enter is Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 1 p.m. The contest will be limited to 12 trees. Voting by the public will be held Wednesday, Nov. 29 through Thursday Dec. 14 during the restaurant’s regular business hours.

Lighted Christmas Parade and Santa’s Visit to Schulenburg
The Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce will host a lighted Christmas parade in downtown Schulenburg and “Party with Santa in the Park” on Saturday, Dec. 2.
Parade line-up will be at 5 p.m. (the line will start at the old Galipp’s parking lot) and the parade will begin at 5:45 p.m. A parade entry form appears on Page 9 of this week’s issue. After the parade, Santa will be at the downtown gazebo to hear Christmas wishes.
