The Fayette County Czech Heritage Society met on Sunday, Feb. 4 in the Hanslik Hall of the Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center in La Grange to celebrate its annual soup (polévka) social. An abundance of soups including chicken noodle, tortilla, potato, sauerkraut with sausage, vegetable beef soup and chili were enjoyed.
The guest speaker was Dawn Orsak, who is writing a cookbook about the foods Texas Czechs have been eating since immigrating to Texas. She is currently collecting recipes and photos of food preparation. Her book will focus on foods prepared in the home, served at community events and sold commercially.
The election of officers for the 2024 year was held. Retta Slavik Chandler performed the installation.
