Weimar KCs Fried Catfish Dinners During Lent

Weimar Knights of Columbus Council 2153 will hold a drive-thruonly fried catfish dinner each Friday of Lent – Feb. 23, March 1, March 8, March 15 and March 22 – from 5 to 7 p.m. or until sold out at the St. Michael Catholic Church Family Center in Weimar. Cost will be $13 per plate. The Catholic Daughters will be selling desserts.

Best Little Quilt Show in Texas

The Colorado Valley Quilt Guild’s 26th annual Best Little Quilt Show in Texas will be held Feb. 23-24 at the La Grange KC Community Center, 190 South Brown St. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24. Admission will be $10. There will be quilt displays, vendor shopping, baskets and free books & magazines.

A drawing will be held for a quilt with the pattern “Summer Moon” by Carrie Nelson (used with permission from It’s Sew Emma) and quilted by Kathi Babcock.

Black History Month Celebration

A Black History Month community celebration, “African Americans & the Arts 2024,” will be held on Feb. 24-25.

On Saturday, Feb. 24, a parade will be held at 10 a.m. along North Main Street. At 11 a.m., a Black history program will take place at the Schulenburg Hall, 405 South St., featuring food, music and fun.

On Sunday, Feb. 25, a church service will be held at 11 a.m. at Stevens Chapel United Methodist Church, 309 Wolters Ave. Pastor is Rev. Dr. Pamela Satterwhite.

KCs Barbecue Pork Steak Dinner and Blood Drive

The Schulenburg Knights of Columbus will serve a drive-thru-only barbecue pork steak dinner on Sunday, Feb. 25 at the Schulenburg Hall starting at 10:30 a.m. or when food is ready. The $12 plates will include barbecue pork steak, vegetable rice, green beans and pickle. Reservations are not necessary.

In addition, South Texas Blood Bank will have a blood drive from 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Feb. 25 in the hall parking lot. Each donor will receive a free meal provided by the KCs as well as a free T-shirt (while supplies last). For more information, call Ed Kusy at 979-743-5879.

Ammannsville KJT Building Fund Benefit Dinner

A barbecue chicken dinner benefitting the Ammannsville KJT building fund will be held on Sunday, March 3 starting at 11 a.m. at the Ammannsville KJT Hall. The drive-thru-only plates will have half a barbecue chicken, potatoes & pinto beans and cost $13 each. There will be no advance sales and plates will be sold first-come, first-served.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Champion Valley ‘Best O’ Luck’ Bingo

The Boys & Girls Clubs of ChampionValley will host“Best O’Luck”bingo on Sunday, March 17 at The Oaks at High Hill near Schulenburg. Doors will open at 2 p.m. and bingo will be played from 3 to 7 p.m.

Tickets are $25 pre-sale and $30 that day. The ticket includes one bingo card; additional cards will be $5 each. Tickets are available at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Champion Valley or by scanning the QR code in the ad in this week’s issue.

Lions Club Nontraditional Student Scholarship

The Schulenburg Lions Club is offering two nontraditional student scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each. The scholarship can be used for secondary education, going back to school, graduate studies, work certifications, technical school, nursing programs, etc. Applicants must live in Schulenburg or work in Schulenburg and live in the surrounding area.

Applications are available by calling the Chamber of Commerce at 979-743-4514 or visiting the Chamber website. Applications must be submitted to the Chamber office by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27.
