Referrals Being Accepted for Gifted/Talented Program at SISD 

Schulenburg ISD is planning for the Gifted/Talented program and accepting referrals for students in grades 1-5 who may need services. This program is designed for students who exhibit intellectual and creative thinking abilities at an extraordinary level not normally served in the regular classroom. Services are provided only upon identification of educational needs of the student.

The form must be returned to SISD by Friday, March 21. Nomination/ referral forms are available at each campus office and online through the school’s website at www.schulenburgisd.net.

Friends of the Schulenburg Public Library Book Sale

Friends of the Schulenburg Public Library will hold a book sale from Friday, March 21 through Saturday, March 29 during regular library hours. The books, priced starting at 50 cents, will include children’s, young reader, fiction, history, crafts, etc. The library is located at 310 Simpson St.

Little League Opening Ceremonies

Schulenburg Little League opening ceremonies will be held on Saturday, March 22 at 11 a.m. at the Sports Complex. Team photos will be taken before and also afterward, with games starting at noon.

St. Rose Parish Drive-Thru Spaghetti Dinner

St. Rose of Lima Parish will have a drive-thru-only spaghetti dinner on Sunday, March 23 at the Schulenburg Hall starting at 10:30 a.m. or when food is ready to serve The plates will include spaghetti with a mound of sauce, garlic bread and fresh Italian salad. The authentic homemade spaghetti meat sauce will be made by Fr. Jasper Liggio and his brother Vincent Liggio. Cost will be $13 per plate and there will also be a bake sale.

La Grange FFA Fish Fry Dinner

The La Grange FFA will hold a fish fry dinner on Friday, April 4 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the La Grange High School ag building. The drivethru- only plates ($15 each) will included fried fish, butter-and-onion potatoes, pinto beans, coleslaw and hush puppies.

Tickets are available from La Grange FFA members, Kylie Zapalac and Callene Zapalac, and at Clear Title Company in La Grange.

Schulenburg Sausagefest

The 10th annual Schulenburg Sausagefest will be held on Saturday, April 5 in downtown Schulenburg from 11:15 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The event will start with the “Shortest Parade in Texas.” Live music all day will feature Doc West, Czechaholics and Mark Halata & Texavia. There will be a hog-calling contest, sausage-toss contest, arts/crafts vendors, grand march, children’s activities, fun run, American Legion black bean motorcycle ride, biergarten and food. Admission is free.

Lions Club Nontraditional Student Scholarship

The Schulenburg Lions Club is offering one or more $2,000 nontraditional student scholarships. The scholarship can be used for secondary education, going back to school, graduate studies, work certifications, technical school, nursing programs, etc. Applicants must live in Schulenburg or work in Schulenburg and live in the surrounding area. Applications are available by calling the Chamber of Commerce at 979-743-4514 or at the Schulenburg Public Library. Applications must be submitted to the Chamber office by 4 p.m. on Friday, April 25.
