State unemployment drops slightly in January while area rates increase

The seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate statewide fell from 4.2 percent in December to 4.1 percent in January, according to the Texas Workforce Commission.

Fayette and surrounding counties saw increases in their rates (not seasonally adjusted) in January, ranging from 0.4 to 0.7 percent. However, all were comparable to January of 2024.
